Integrating water protection in forestry into Baltic Sea cooperation

UPM and the Baltic Sea Action Group are supporting research, which concentrates on sustainable forestry and identifying effective ways to reduce the impacts of forestry on water bodies. Through this collaboration, new research plots are being integrated into a network coordinated by the University of Helsinki and are open to all researchers. These plots enable analysis of water quality, carbon balance and groundwater regulation. Small changes in practices can help prevent harm, improve the condition of waters bodies and restore them to their natural state. UPM is committed to sharing new guidelines with its forest owner customers.
