By developing and optimising their production processes and improving energy efficiency, Stora Enso’s Imatra mills have reduced their direct and purchased energy related greenhouse gas emissions to a historically low level. In 2025, the mills’ specific emissions (Scope 1 + 2) were 104 kg CO₂e per tonne of production (cf. 2019: 191 kg CO₂e). At the same time, the mills’ total emissions decreased by more than 100,000 tonnes of CO₂e compared to 2019 levels. In the same year, wastewater volumes fell to below 50 m³ per tonne of production. In addition, total sulphur emissions to air and nitrogen oxide emissions declined to their lowest levels in the history of the Imatra mills.
