Stora Enso

Over 90 % smaller greenhouse gas emissions with renewable energy

Thanks to Stora Enso’s investment at the Heinola Fluting mill, the site has replaced solid fossil fuels with renewable bioenergy. The change reduces the mill’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by more than 113,000 tonnes of CO₂e—over 90% compared with previous levels. The reduction corresponds to the carbon footprint of housing for approximately 80,000 average Finnish residents. At the same time, the mill has improved the stability and efficiency of its processes. The modernisation of energy use and processes has also had a positive impact on district heating in the area, bringing the city of Heinola closer to its carbon neutrality target.
