A historic reform of working life underway

The Finnish Forest Industries Federation is in the process of withdrawing from collective bargaining, and terms of employment will be negotiated at company- and/orproduct line level. Companies may agree with their personnel on shifts, pay and any terms of employment, over which agreement is not restricted by law.

The change will be completed during the next few years as the existing collective agreements expire. The Finnish Forest Industries Federation is responsible for the currently valid collective agreements until their expiry, at the latest until the end of 2022.

The background to the reform is the Finnish Forest Industries Federation’s long-term objective, structural development of employment terms. The national collective bargaining agreement system responds poorly to the needs of companies in different market and economic situations, their different business areas and individual factories.
