Great economic importance
Forest industry is economically important for Finland due to the industry’s extensive domestic value chain. In 2021, the forest sector’s turnover totalled approximately EUR 46 billion and the sector generated EUR 11 billion of value added.
The extensive domestic value chain is also reflected in tax revenues for society. The forest sector’s total tax revenue is approximately EUR 3.1 billion annually, close to half of which consists of taxes and social security costs paid by employees, and social security costs paid by employers.
The forest industry employs about 38 400 people directly. The entire value chain of the forest industry provides employment for 82 800 people in Finland.
