Health and well-being from wood

Wood is used to produce biomedical products to support health and well-being. For example, wood provides nanocellulose, which has a high cell and tissue compatibility and water retention capacity. Nanocellulose can be used, for example, in cancer research as a cell culture platform or in suturing wounds to speed up their healing.

That’s not all – there are many other wood-based solutions in healthcare. For example, traditional white hospital casts can be partially replaced with a wood-based alternative that does not need to be removed for X-ray scans and can be recycled. Cellulose and wood extract can also serve as protective coatings and binders.
