UPM’s biochemicals help mitigate climate change

Products made with UPM’s wood-based biochemicals have significantly lower carbon footprint than comparable products made from fossil-based raw materials. Environmental impacts from raw material extraction to manufacturing have been assessed through comprehensive life cycle assessments (LCA). UPM’s renewable functional fillers provide lightweight solutions ideal for various rubber and plastic applications, such as tyres and other automotive goods. Renewable glycols can be integrated into existing manufacturing and recycling processes and are suitable for use in bottles, packaging, textiles and detergents. UPM’s lignin offers solutions for the production of phenolic resins, adhesives, plastics and polyurethanes. Production of industrial sugars began in December 2025.
