Stora Enso

More material-efficient and low-emission board with new technology

Stora Enso converted a former production line at its Oulu business unit into a consumer board line based on new technology, utilising the company’s patented FiberLight Tec™ fibre processing technology. The new technology enables the production of boards that are up to one third lighter than traditional boards while still maintaining high strength and durability. The board is produced using wood purchased from Finnish forest owners as well as wood chips from the company’s sawmills. Bark and sawdust are, in turn, utilised for energy production, which is also supplied to the district heating network in Oulu. Thanks to recent investments, the Oulu site has also reduced its fossil carbon dioxide emissions by 90%.
